UN Day Concert 2014
On October 24, 2014 The Foundation had the honor of being the first performance celebrating the birthday of the United Nations in their newly renovated General Assembly Hall. Lang Lang led an orchestra consisting of 85 children, including our Young Scholars, to represent multiple countries from four different continents!
Children from Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Columbia, Kenya, China, South Korea and The United States, represented their countries under the direction of Maestro Manuel Lopez-Gomez. It’s was only fitting that Alec Baldwin returned to be the Master of Ceremony. Legendary Singer/Songwriter Sting made a special appearance performing two of his greatest hits “Englishman in New York” and “Fragile”.
The concert has streamed live to over 65 countries including a broadcast link via Tencent, YouTube and two of China’s largest networks from Shanghai Media Group. SiriusXM, WQXR, Bloomberg Mornings, and CBS News Sunday Morning have all spotlighted the concert and the foundation’s work. Multiple interviews and headline news stories have given the young musicians a bigger voice to share with the world how our invitation to such a special event has changed their lives. One musician from Kenya, has even made the front page of her country’s primary newspaper!
