1. The Three-Year Commitment

If selected, you are joining the Young Scholars Class of 2027–2029. The Young Scholars Program is a three-year artistic and educational commitment.

Young Scholars are expected to participate actively throughout the full program cycle, remain in regular communication with the Foundation, prepare seriously for program activities, and contribute respectfully to the Young Scholars community.

2. Requirements of International Young Scholar Academies

A Young Scholar should not plan to arrive late, leave early, or attend only selected days. Personal concerts, competitions, festivals, vacations, summer programs, or other voluntary commitments will generally not be considered sufficient reasons to shorten or miss an Academy participation.

If exceptional circumstances arise, the Scholar or parent/guardian must contact the Foundation as early as possible. Any exception must be requested in advance and is subject to the Foundation's approval at its discretion.

3. Preparation, Participation & Artistic Standards

• Arrive fully prepared for masterclasses, lessons, rehearsals, performances, meetings, and educational activities.
• Participate actively and on time in required program activities.
• Maintain the artistic promise and professionalism expected of a Young Scholar.
• Treat teachers, artists, fellow Scholars, staff, partners, sponsors, venues, and host institutions with respect.

4. Communication & Scheduling

• Respond to Foundation communications and requests within the stated deadlines.
• Inform the Foundation promptly of important scheduling conflicts, changes in contact information, or circumstances that may affect participation.
• Do not confirm competing commitments for required Young Scholars activities without first discussing this conflict with the Foundation.

5. Conduct & Representation

Young Scholars represent themselves, their families, and the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. Scholars are expected to behave with integrity, courtesy, maturity, and respect during Foundation activities, travel connected to the program, public appearances, and online engagement associated with the program.

Serious misconduct, repeated disrespectful behavior, or conduct that materially harms the safety, integrity, or reputation of the program may affect continued participation.

6. Parent / Guardian Responsibilities

• Support the Scholar's full participation in required program activities.
• Respond to Foundation communications and meet registration, travel, document, visa, consent, and other deadlines.
• Inform the Foundation promptly of any circumstances that may affect attendance or participation.
• Work with the Foundation in good faith when scheduling or participation issues arise.

7. Continued Participation & Consequences

Continued status as a Young Scholar depends on meeting the responsibilities described above. When expectations are not met, the Foundation may take proportionate steps depending on the seriousness and circumstances of the issue.

These steps may include a conversation with the Scholar and family, a written notice, a corrective participation plan, probation, suspension from specific opportunities, withdrawal of Foundation support associated with an activity, or discontinuation of Young Scholar status.

The Foundation may act immediately in serious situations involving safety, significant misconduct, or a substantial breach of program expectations. Decisions will be made by the Foundation based on the circumstances of each case.
