Van Deene STEAM Academy

Nestled in a quiet neighborhood off Vermont Avenue near the Alpine Village, Van Deene STEAM Academy is the best kept secret in the South Bay of Los Angeles. Here at Van Deene, we have taken good care of our diverse population of young people and their families since 1950. In the past 5 years, we have opened an edible garden, a science lab, and a robotics lab. Our young Vikings use technology daily and participate in the Science Olympiad and First Lego League. We also put on an annual musical (recently The Wiz and The Lion King) and hold three additional music shows during the school year.

We are fortunate in the elementary school setting to be able to dream of the potential in every young child we serve. They Keys of Inspiration Grant allows us to expand opportunities for students. KOI means that our Title 1 students, who might not have access to instruments or music lessons at home, will have a chance to learn music at a deeper level and discover a love for music. The piano lab helps us give our students a strong STEAM background by sparking and extending their innate talents in STEAM.

Van Deene is committed to cultivating potential and fostering excellence in every student through collaboration, creativity, and research-based practices. Van Deene is preparing young minds for the jobs of the future. The KOI grant helps us achieve our mission. Go Vikings!
