Leeds International Piano Festival with LLIMF Young Scholars 2018
The first Leeds International Piano Festival with the Lang Lang International Music Foundation Young Scholars. We are excited to announce our first collaboration with LIPC brought three of our Young Scholars; Eden Chen, Chelsea Guo and Amir Siraj to Leeds and London.
The two week festival allowed the Young Scholars to explore the city of Leeds and London in England.
During our stay in Leeds our Young Scholars attended a recital, as well as a masterclass, both given by Alessio Bax, at the Howard Assembly Room. The scholars also visited local schools in Leeds, where they were discovered how music education is taught in Leeds. The scholars held a mini Q&A session, and performed for the students at St. Nicholas Catholic Primary school, and at The Rodillian Academy. They also attended a digital workshop hosted by the University of Leeds graduate students, in which they learned about music in coding and education.
The scholars participated in “Piano Fantasia”, an engaging show for the community held at Leeds Town Hall. “Piano Fantasia” combines live performances by pianist and entertainer Will Pickvance and three Young Scholars from the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, with beautiful animations and audience interaction. Over two performances we welcomed 1,200 primary school children from Leeds and West Yorkshire, enhancing their experience with a free worksheet for all pupils, and introductory music workshops in the lead-up to the performances.
The Scholars toured the historic Wigmore Hall, one of the most famous performing venues in London. Later on, they had the opportunity to perform there. They also toured the London Steinway Hall, where they learned about the construction and mechanics behind building Steinway pianos. The scholars also visited a senior care center, the Betty and Asher Loftus Centre, and the Risley Avenue Primary School in London to perform and interact with seniors and students in the London Community.
